Only two rounds remain to be played at the 2025 European Team Chess Championship in Batumi, Georgia. Ukraine and Poland continue to lead in the Open and Women’s sections, respectively.

Open Section

On the top board, the match between the Netherlands and Ukraine ended with a 2.5–1.5 victory for Ukraine.

Igor Kovalenko (UKR, 2669) continued his excellent performance by defeating Loek van Wely (NED, 2630). With a performance rating of 2956, Kovalenko is currently the best fourth-board player in the championship. The other three games were drawn.

After defeating Hungary, Azerbaijan got closer to the leader and is now in second place with 11 match points.

Ukraine remains in the lead with 13 match points. The Netherlands, Romania, England, and Serbia share third place with 10 match points each.

Women’s Section

Poland, despite losing to Ukraine, still keeps the sole lead. However, the gap between the leader and the runner-up has now narrowed to just one match point.

Germany scored a convincing 3–1 victory over Romania today and, together with Ukraine, trails the leader by only one match point.

The games of the next round will start at 15:00 in local time.
